The 48 Hours Varusha South Festival, the Stage of the Ages Festival, and Konstantin Kisimov Music and Drama Theatre are joining forces to present a unique event that will take audiences on an elegant journey through jazz, classical, and electronic music.
In Sebastian Studnitzky’s unmistakable sound, not a single note is superfluous. His music is intricate, minimalist, and transparent, yet deeply personal at the same time. Too edgy for pop, too emotional for jazz, too opulent for electronic music, and driven by a rhythmic groove far removed from the avant-garde, Studnitzky’s music offers something refreshingly new.
His performance at the Tsarevets Fortress during the 48 Hours Varusha South Festival will be accompanied by the MDT “Konstantin Kisimov” Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Gancho Ganchev. The encounter between Sebastian’s distinctive sound and the richness of the string instruments promises a captivating musical experience under the open sky, set against the backdrop of one of Bulgaria’s most impressive historical landmarks.
STUDNITZKY is an internationally acclaimed artist of the highest calibre, equally at home on the trumpet as he is at the piano. The world’s most prestigious stages are his natural habitat – performing in clubs and at festivals across the globe, he has collaborated with artists and projects such as Nils Landgren’s Funk Unit, Jazzanova, Mezzoforte, Nightmares On Wax, Moritz von Oswald, Emiliana Torrini, and Dominic Miller.
Through these collaborations, he has developed a distinctive sound entirely his own: it is jazz – and so much more than jazz. His music combines profound emotion with a consistent sense of minimalism, making the intangible feel both audible and tangible. Whether performing on trumpet or piano, his compositions are defined by an unusual and highly individual tone: soft, fluid, and understated, yet deeply intense and compelling. Solo, with a band, or alongside an orchestra – all of these worlds coexist in his work. Trumpet, piano, or drum machine – why not all at once?
In 2014, STUDNITZKY founded the XJAZZ! Festival Berlin and took on the role of its artistic director. XJAZZ! quickly became Berlin’s largest jazz festival and also launched international editions in several countries. In 2022, XJAZZ! was awarded the German Jazz Prize for “Festival of the Year”.
His enormous stylistic range is also evidenced by the more than 150 CD recordings he has made so far in his career.
The event is realised with the support of Goethe-Institut Bulgarien
