Traditionally, the classical repertoire will be presented on the stage over the former palace of the Bulgarian kings. The season starts on June 27 with one of the most challenging and spectacular titles in classical music – the opera “The Journey to Reims” by Gioacchino Rossini. The semi-staged performance of this masterpiece is presented by the Sinfonietta – Vratsa and an exceptional ensemble of musicians, who got scholarships from the national scholarship program of the Cultural Perspectives Foundation.

  The program continues with a new impressive productions of “Rigoletto” by Rousse State Opera (July 3) and “Samson and Delilah” of State Opera – Burgas (July 11). On July 18 Konstantin Kisimov Music and Drama Theatre presents the operetta “The Csárdás Princess” at Tsarevets, the following ballet is “Swan Lake” of Stara Zagora State Opera (July 25), and for Wagner fans on 31 July comes Varna State Opera with “Wagner Gala” based on the opera “Die Walküre”.

  On August 8 the famous Italian Philharmonic Giuseppe Verdi di Salerno comes as a special guest of the festival and on August 14 the German multi-instrumentalist and innovator Sebastian Studnicki presents his unique crossover style in a large-scale joint concert with the orchestra of the local Konstantin Kisimov Musical and Drama Theater. The season ends on September 1 with the concert-performance “Madame Johann Strauss” by Stefan Makedonski National Musical Theater.

After each performance at the historic fortress, as a gift for the viewers from the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo, the world famous audio-visual show “Tsarevgrad Tarnov – Sound and Light” will be shown for free.
