„THE PEARL FISHERS“
opera by Georges Bizet
State Opera Stara Zagora
27 JULY (SATURDAY) 2024

Stara Zagora State Opera visits Stage of the Ages 2024 with Georges Bizet’s opera “The Pearl Fishers” on July 27 at 9:00 p.m.
Director Slavcho Nikolov defines his latest production of this exciting title from the treasury of French classics as a beautiful Eastern fairy tale. In tandem with the production designer Gendoni, the director develops a fairy-tale vision and a dramatic narrative with complex human relationships, which shakes and causes a storm of emotions with the melodic and touching music of the young Bizet. Music that captivates and touches.
Composer Georges Bizet wrote his opera “The Pearl Fishers” at the age of 24 and even before he turned 25 – the premiere took place /1863, Théâtre Lyrique – Paris/ and it was Bizet’s first opera. Some experts believe that “The Pearl Fishers” is to some extent a stepping stone to his brilliant “Carmen”. The plot tells about the rivalry between two friends, pearl fishers Zurga and Nadir, who are in love with the beautiful Leila. It develops against the background of the exotic landscapes of the island of Ceylon /Sri Lanka/. And Leila will have to make a much more difficult choice: between duty and love. As in most romantic stories, love wins.
In the role of Leila – Emilia Terzieva. Romanian tenor Andrey Fermeshanu – Nadir, Valery Turmanov – Zurga, and Nurabad – Yevgeny Arabadzhiev.
